New California “Daylighting Law” (AB 413) – Parking Restrictions Near Stop Signs & Crosswalks

Posted By on February 19, 2025

Dear Pinehurst Hills Residents,

A new California law, Assembly Bill 413 (AB 413), also known as the “Daylighting Law,” went into effect as of January 1, 2025 to improve safety at intersections by restricting parking near crosswalks and stop signs within 20 ft.

Why Was This Law Passed?
The purpose of AB 413 is to increase visibility at intersections by preventing vehicles from blocking sightlines near crosswalks and stop signs. This change enhances safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

What Does This Law Prohibit?
Under AB 413, drivers cannot stop, stand, or park within 20 feet of a crosswalk, including briefly stopping to pick up or drop off passengers.

How This Affects You
If you currently park near a crosswalk or stop sign, please make sure to follow the new 20-foot clearance rule to avoid penalties. These regulations will be enforced statewide to improve pedestrian safety and reduce traffic hazards.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe!
